Nothing to see here

12 Dec

I was supposed to come up with today’s blog topic while on my early morning ride to the beach. I do most of my best/most creative thinking while spinning Av along the beach path. And this was a morning where an Av+Beach combo would definitely be necessary in order to help me to think straight. Bad news for the blog: Av is enjoying an unexpectedly extended stay at the bike spa. I won’t get her back ’til Friday.

So, so, so many, many sighs, actually…

<pause. stare off into space. try to come up with something cogent. fail. blink. return to reality…>

I tried my other go-to tricks to get my thinking/creative juices flowing:

  • evaluating my spilt-ends in great detail,
  • tweezing out micro-tiny eyebrow hairs,
  • re-arranging my toiletries (Sulyapa is going to be REALLY surprised when she comes to clean on Tuesday!),
  • taking a shower that exceeded the Standard West Point Allotment of 90 seconds,
  • other bathroom-related tasks that probably aren’t appropriate to share in a public forum…

No dice. The blog wouldn’t write itself.

My brain remains frozen from a combination of post-finals exhaustion + something akin to post-traumatic stress relating to the news that a former colleague was killed on Sunday while riding his bike, in the bike path, BY A SHERIFF’S DEPT. OFFICER (so much for the whole “to serve and protect” thing…). The fact that the most informative reporting regarding this incident comes from a British newspaper rather than from our local media (“he collided with a Sheriff’s patrol vehicle…”), just boggles my f*cking mind.

More sighs.

More staring off into space.

More thoughts that will not organize themselves into blogiful prose…

I tried to get Zolie to write another Special Guest Post, but she refused to get out of bed.

So, I’m sorry, dear reader – You do not get to go on a JustAdventure today.

Please console yourself by watching this video instead:

Harvard med students, inspired by the YouTube-infamous Fox, attempt to explain What The Spleen Do.

Maybe by the end of next quarter’s Advanced Anatomy course/cadaver lab, I can answer that for you!

And maybe by the end of today, after I’ve gone to my Russian Spa for a much-deserved vodka-fueled beating with sticks, my brain will be blissfully restored and ready to resume some JustAdventures…

Parting Thought: The idea is to write it so that people hear it and it slides through the brain and goes straight to the heart. ~Maya Angelou

Sorry to hear you’re having a sign filled day, maybe it’s a good day to snuggle up with Zolie and just rest. Love her previous guest post btw, somehow missed it in the first go ’round.

Oh, it’s a sign-filled day, too — i.e., It’s a big friggin’ sign that I NEED TO GO TO THE SPA!!

But first I need to open some cans of whoopass on Germany on behalf of Holocaust survivors. That should get my mojo flowing again and then, in 7 hours, the beatings-with-branches will commence and bliss will follow immediately thereafter…
